Engine Problems

If you feel the engine stumbling when you try to turn it on, then this is what is known as an “engine misfire.” This common spark plug malfunction is something that our service department can fix easily. Do not delay when it comes to this simple repair! Misfiring increases exhaust emissions, lowers your fuel economy average, and diminishes engine power. If the engine is having a hard time turning on at all, this could also be from spark plug deterioration. The best thing to do is talk to our experts to really pinpoint the issue.

Lessened Acceleration

When your vehicle has noticeably weaker acceleration, it is likely that it needs new spark plugs. A dead spark plug makes the engine think it is overworked, which hinders performance. This is another simple fix for our mechanics.

Heavy Fuel Usage

Are you noticing a change in fuel economy? Eroding spark plugs could be the culprit. Fuel doesn’t combust properly when the spark plugs are worn, since the plug electrodes may shift. Save your wallet from unnecessary trips to the gas station and visit our service department.

Hard Idling

Damaged or old spark plugs will make the car feel jittery. You will feel the car stutter harshly, even while completely stationary. Make sure to bring in your car when you begin to notice these warning signs. If you don’t replace the spark plugs, your engine will undergo even further damage that can be much more expensive.

Leasing vs. Purchasing

If you’re shopping for a vehicle, you may wonder about the benefits of leasing vs. purchasing. Which choice is the right one for you? There are many factors that could influence your decision. Keep reading as we explore the pros and cons—then get in touch with the expert team at Bowman Chevrolet to get a vehicle quote on the car that’s best for you!

CalculatorIf you like having a new automobile and enjoying the latest features as they become available, leasing may be a good option for you. One of the key differences is that you only pay for the depreciation in value that will occur during the lease. When you purchase a car, you’re financing the total cost of the vehicle. As a result, lessees will generally have a lower monthly payment than those who finance a vehicle. At the conclusion of a lease term, you return the vehicle to the dealer and have no more responsibility. You are free to lease the new model of your choice.

The following are some of the benefits of leasing an automobile versus buying it:

  • Pay lower monthly payments.
  • Enjoy the very latest automotive amenities.
  • Experience a brand-new vehicle every few years.
  • Drivers have warranty coverage for the duration of the lease agreement.

There are also some drawbacks to leasing a vehicle:

  • If your mileage limit is exceeded, you must pay mileage overage penalties.
  • No equity accrues from your payments, since you are essentially renting the vehicle.
  • You can’t customize or alter the car in any permanent way. It must be returned to the dealer in original condition, aside from normal wear and tear.
  • At the end of your lease, you have no trade-in or resale options toward the lease of your next vehicle. You must come up with a new down payment.

When you finance a vehicle, you own it fully once you’ve finish making the required payments. If you want the benefits that come with outright ownership, financing is likely the best choice for you.

The following are some of the perks of financing a vehicle:

  • You’ll gain equity as you pay off the loan.
  • Enjoy total freedom to customize the vehicle.
  • You are not restricted in how many miles you can travel.
  • You have resale and trade-in options when you choose to get a different automobile.

Here are some of the drawbacks of financing:

  • A larger down payment is required.
  • Due to larger monthly payments, you may have to extend the number of loan years to get a payment plan that fits your budget.
  • Market changes can affect the value of your model over time, unlike a lease.

Our Top Ten Tips

What should you pay attention to while detailing at home?

  • Take one section of the car at a time. Start with the exterior one day and try the interior the next day. It’s best to take your time for the finest results. Don’t hop back and forth between areas, but really concentrate on every section individually.
  • When you are ready to move to the car interior, use an air compressor to move all the dirt and crumbs to the middle of the carpets. Vacuum the dirt, and then pull the carpets out and scrub them with stiff brushes to loosen more debris.
  • Make sure to have a portable air compressor to clean vents and the air filter. Dust is one of the top culprits for unpleasant car odors, so this can really improve your ambiance.
  • Clean your tires with a non-acid cleanser. Acid cleansers harm your wheels! You should also clean the tires with a degreaser, but not a detergent. Also, make sure to work on tires and wheels before you clean the rest of the car’s paint.
  • Your car looks great after a classic hand wash! Only use a solution meant for cars. Dry it off with a squeegee to prevent water spots.
  • Use a paint-cleaning clay to make the car’s surface smooth again. After the wash and dry, you can run your hands along the car’s body. If there are rough spots, then your car will benefit from a little TLC.
  • Make your car ultra-shiny with an oscillating buffer. There are many kits on the market for DIY detailers.
  • Use a paint-protecting wax to guard your car from the elements: UV rays, dirt, and more. Usually cars only need two good coats.
  • In between waxes, we recommend a liquid wax spray to touch up spots.
  • Glass should be the last cleaning step! Buff and clean with a microfiber cloth.

Bowman Chevy DIY Tips: How to Restore Headlights

If you’ve noticed your car’s headlights have become foggy over time, you’re not alone. The natural process of “oxidation” can dim even the brightest lights. However, a little DIY wet sanding can restore the radiance in just a few hours! Learn how to restore headlights in just a few simple steps, or head to our service department for additional assistance!

Getting Ready

Before you start, you will need:

  • Blue Chevy Cruze headlightAutomotive masking tape
  • Sandpaper in 800, 1,000, and 2,000 grits
  • Shop towels
  • Automotive rubbing compound
  • Electric drill
  • Compound pad with drill adapter
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Spray bottle filled with water (can add a small amount of soap for lubrication)
  • Small measuring cup
  • Odorless mineral spirits
  • Clear gloss spar urethane

Getting Started

Place automotive masking tape around the headlights to protect the paint from accidental scratches. Next, cut the sandpaper sheets into fourths. Spray a quarter sheet of the 800 grit sandpaper with your spray bottle. Place the wet sandpaper on the headlight, where it should stick on its own, and then spray the entire headlight until thoroughly wet.

Begin to slowly sand the headlight, continuing to spray water as you sand. Be sure to sand the edges and corners as well, using a fresh sheet of sandpaper for each headlight. It is helpful to sand in just one direction. Keep sanding until a uniform surface of 800 grit scratches can be easily seen, but wipe the surface with a shop towel before you check.

Rinse and Repeat

Now that you’ve mastered the wet sanding process, repeat the same steps with 1,000 grit and 2,000 grit sandpaper. Remember the key points: Sand in one direction, lubricate the surface, and wipe the surface when done. The more time you take on this step, the better your results will be. When you’ve again reached a uniform finish, you’ll see that the headlight looks noticeably clearer.

Time for the Drill

Take out the drill and attach the compound pad, or substitute a wool buffing pad and a polisher if you have them on hand. Shake the rubbing compound well and apply a generous amount to the headlight. Without turning on the drill, rub the compound over the headlight with the compound pad.

Now, it’s time to start the drill and begin polishing—but be sure to start slowly. Once the compound has spread, you can turn up the drill to full speed. Make sure you cover all areas of the headlight, adding more compound if needed.

At this stage, you are essentially finished! Your headlights should look much better. Now, it’s time to take protective measures to keep your headlights bright and shiny.

Use a shop towel and the rubbing alcohol to wipe the headlights, which will eliminate any remaining rubbing compound. Then, pour one ounce of spar urethane and one ounce of mineral spirits in a measuring cup. Mix well.

Now, fold a shop towel into a small square and dip it into the spirits mixture. Apply carefully to avoid drips, beginning at the top of the headlight and applying in a horizontal movement as you make your way down. The clear coat will thicken quickly after application, so work steadily. Should you make a mistake, simply remove the clear coat with mineral spirits and begin again.

Let this clear coat dry for at least 30 minutes before driving the vehicle. Let the headlight sit for at least four hours before you touch it. You can hand wash after a day has passed, but normal washing can commence after three days.
