What Should Drivers Expect from the New Chevrolet Bolt?

2017-chevy-bolt-exteriorDrivers across Clarkston, Waterford, and Detroit are aching to know what to expect from the new Chevrolet Bolt. Already named Motor Trend’s 2017 Car of the Year, this new electric vehicle (EV) is set to bring the advantages of an eco-friendly drive without the high price tag you’d expect.

The Next Generation of the EV

The first run of EV models looked more like science fiction contraptions than everyday vehicles, and most of them enjoyed little more than novelty status. As the industry developed, new models, such as the Tesla Model S, emerged to provide all the luxuries of a traditional car while offering a range of up to 300 miles. Unfortunately, such vehicles command premium prices, and more affordable options, such as the Nissan Leaf, are only able to reach 80 miles or so. With ‘range anxiety’ an ever-present problem, it was always going to take an EV that could combine a reduced starting price with excellent practicality that would become the model for the everyday driver.

The Ground-Breaking Chevrolet Bolt

If you’ve been waiting for just such a vehicle, then the new Chevrolet Bolt should be a welcome surprise. Delivering up to an EPA-estimated 238 miles of range, the Bolt’s innovative drive system utilizes a single, high-capacity electric motor to produce up to a phenomenal 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, enough to take you to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds. Power is controlled through Chevrolet’s first Electronic Precision Shift system, with a shift and park-by-wire setup allowing for precise control. The Bolt promises to be a joy to drive and capable of taking the EV concept further. And a competitive maximum range isn’t all the Bolt can offer. The by-wire shifter consumes appreciably less space than the traditional mechanical shifter, so the vehicle’s crossover-like dimensions feel open and inviting. Interior technologies will also be top of the range, with standard and available features including:

  • 10.2-Inch-Diagonal Color Touchscreen Display
  • Rear Camera Mirror
  • Surround Vision Monitor

Prepare Your Vehicle for Michigan Winters With a Little Help From Bowman Chevrolet!

winter-drivingAs winter approaches, it’s time to start thinking about the impact the seasonal change has on your vehicle’s performance. Whether you’re behind the wheel of a Silverado or a Cruze, there are a few basic preparations you can make now to ensure you’ll be ready to brave Michigan weather once the temps begin to drop.

Top Off Your Fluids

Air temperature affects all of the various fluids that are important components to healthy engine function. If it’s been awhile since your last oil change, go ahead and put that on your to-do list. Old oil thickens, and cold air further affects the oil’s viscosity, so having fresh clean oil that’s fully topped off is a great first step to winterizing your vehicle. While you’re at it, check other fluids like coolant, antifreeze, and wiper fluid, making sure are all properly filled.

Also important: when your vehicle’s fuel tank dips below half-full, fill up soon before you hit a quarter tank. If the weather causes you to lose your way, you may go further than planned on one tank of gas and could run out of fuel; or, if you become stranded, a full tank will provide warmth while you wait out the storm.

Cold Weather Gear

If your town tends to be particularly hard hit with snow, consider putting snow tires on your vehicle. Snow tires are designed to offer better traction, braking, and control on surfaces like snow and ice. Also be sure to monitor your tire’s air pressure and fill them if they are low. Cold air contracts and can make your tires under-inflated, which can lead to a blowout or other dangerous situations. Also consider installing new wiper blades on your windshield wipers. Winter blades are designed to help clear snow and ice while you are driving to ensure enhanced visibility. Additionally, be sure to have an ice scraper and/or brush handy to clear off windows and doors when starting up your vehicle after a snowfall or ice storm.

Have Your Vehicle Serviced

Other areas you might want to consider having inspected by a trained professional include your vehicle’s brakes, 4WD or AWD systems (if you have one), belts and hoses, and your heater and defroster. Additionally, have your battery tested to ensure it’s holding a charge appropriately, and look to see if it’s time to purchase a new one.

Be Prepared, Just in Case

Even if you’ve followed all of the above suggestions, unforeseen circumstances may still cause you trouble this winter. Should you become stranded or run into a distressing situation, the following items are good to have on hand should the need arise:

  • Jumper cables, cell phone, cell phone charger
  • Warm blanket, nonperishable food, bottled water
  • Ice scraper, bag of sand, shovel, road flares
  • Extra wiper fluid, motor oil, antifreeze, and coolant

New Year’s Resolutions

We all make them, but we ranew-years-resolutions-quotesrely keep them. As you kick off 2017, you are bound to make some resolutions for yourself – typically in hopes of bettering your behaviors in some way. However, this year, instead of trying to lose 50 pounds in a month, start by trying to establish some more realistic goals. Setting some basic car maintenance expectations for yourself can be a fantastic way to ring in the New Year, and a resolution you may be able to keep! Here are some helpful hints!

  1. Keep your vehicle clean. Take all unnecessary things out of your trunk. Organize the things that do need to stay in your vehicle – get a car caddy for all of your loose ends. Cash in your spare change that has been left under your seats or in your ashtrays. Vacuum your carpets and spray down your rubber floor mats. Drive through a car wash or wash it yourself. A clean car makes for a fresh start to the New Year!
  2. Perform routine maintenance checks. Every month, or more often if you so choose, check your car’s vitals. Make sure the tire pressure is acceptable – you can find your tires’ maximum PSI on the tire itself. Check your oil – ensure that you are not due for an oil change. Make sure all of your fluids are full and up to date – you would not want to be stuck after a snow storm with salt residue on your windshield and no washer fluid.
  3. Schedule your next oil change. There is no time like the present – you can schedule your next oil change now! Maintaining your oil health is very important to keeping your car running smoothly. Rest assured that our experienced Lube Technicians will take care of you. Make your next oil change now; call one of our helpful Customer Care Specialists at 248.620.3080 and let them assist you!
  4. Be a better driver. Vow to yourself that you will no longer text and drive. Avoid talking on the phone unless it is a hands-free call. Keep your road rage under control and try to eliminate aggression whilst driving. Remaining calm on the roads makes a safer driving environment for everyone. Get informed – visit the following website for more information on the terrible dangers of texting while driving: https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/dangers-texting-while-driving.
  5. Treat yourself. Is your car getting old and you are just not happy with it? Maybe it’s time to consider getting a new vehicle! Have our sales team assess the equity in your current vehicle – Bowman Chevrolet is happy to give you a vehicle estimate in our service lane free of charge! These estimates show you what your current vehicle is worth and how easy it can be to purchase a new one. If you would like to meet with one of our sales professionals to discuss your options, feel free to give us a call at 248.575.5000.

We all know that it is hard to stick to resolutions, but it doesn’t have to be! Make resolutions that you can keep this year. Take our advice and make these resolutions for yourself!
