Chevrolet Volt Owners Silence California Gas Pumps

LOS ANGELES – Electric vehicles, well known for silent driving, also are muting the ding of gas pumps. In less than three years, Chevrolet Volt owners in California have driven more than 130 million all-electric miles, avoiding use of an estimated 7 million gallons of gas – enough to mute gas pumps across the state for nearly eight hours.

ChevroletVolt-CaliforniaGraphic-mediumMore than 40 percent of Volt owners live in California, making the extended-range electric vehicle the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in the Golden State.

“The Chevrolet Volt is America’s No. 1 selling plug-in with more than 50,000 owners driving electric while achieving fantastic performance numbers,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet Volt marketing director. “Volt owners have found the Volt is not only fun to drive, but it provides technology, performance and savings where consumers need it most.”

In total, Volt owners have driven more than 500 million miles with more than 320 million of those on grid electricity. Total savings: Almost 17 million gallons of gas.

Volt owners remain the most satisfied of any in the industry with the typical Volt owner averaging approximately 900 miles between gasoline fill ups to power the Volt’s on-board electric generator.

2013 Chevrolet VoltAs Volt’s reputation has spread, more than seven in 10 buyers have come from other makes and are new to the Chevrolet family. Not surprisingly, the Toyota Prius is the most frequent trade-in for a Volt.

The Chevrolet Volt provides gas-free driving for an EPA-estimated 38 miles (61 km), depending on terrain, driving techniques and temperature. The range-extending engine, gives the Volt up to 380 total miles (615 km) of total driving range.

Chevy Momentum Continues in 2013 J.D. Power SSI Survey!

For several years, we’ve had a singular vision for the Chevrolet brand – that is, to become America’s Favorite Car Company.  A key to fulfilling this vision is to live out the Everyday Hero guest service culture in our dealerships, treating every customer as a guest in our own homes.

The latest evidence of our journey was just released by J.D. Power and Associates in their 2013 Sales Satisfaction Index survey of new vehicle owners.  Among mass market brands, Chevrolet rose to third place… up from fifth place in 2012, with an increase of 10 index points.  And we outpaced the industry, which increased an average of nine points in this survey.  Our improvement is positive, yet it’s important to note that some manufacturers gained at a faster rate than Chevrolet.  So we must remain diligent to living out the Everyday Hero culture every day… with every customer.

jdpowerThese results speak for themselves.  So we congratulate the Chevrolet dealer team for your dedication to satisfying our owners.  It’s the first step in building customer loyalty… and, as the word spreads throughout the industry, in conquesting new customers to Chevrolet.  Thank you for all your hard work… on the journey to becoming America’s Favorite Car Company.

Sincerely,

Chevrolet Introduces Two New Sedans to Sonic Family

LOS ANGELES – Chevrolet has announced two new sedan options to the Sonic lineup in 2014 – the performance-inspired RS and the stylish Dusk – further demonstrating the brand’s commitment to the subcompact segment and to offering younger buyers expressive options at affordable prices.

The suggested retail price for the 2014 Sonic RS sedan starts at $20,530 including $825 destination. Sonic Dusk starts at $20,945 including destination. Title and license fees are extra.

“Keeping the Sonic lineup fresh and offering consumers more choice is a priority for Chevrolet,” said Cristi Landy, marketing director for Chevrolet small cars.  “The Sonic RS and Dusk sedans offer all of the great attributes that have made the Sonic a popular choice in the subcompact segment and they add performance and design cues.”

2014-Chevrolet-SonicRS-026-mediumSonic RS sedan
The performance-inspired Sonic RS sedan joins the RS hatchback in the lineup and is powered by the Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine rated at 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb-ft of torque (200 Nm). Unique transmission gearing in the six-speed manual, or a 3.53 final drive ratio for automatic-equipped models, along with a sport-tuned suspension and lowered ride height, enhances the car’s performance feel.

One of the most dramatic Sonic RS cues is its front fascia, which has a deep air dam design that enhances the car’s road-hugging stance. Vertical intakes at the edges of the fascia reinforce a wide, low proportion and house the fog lamps.  Interior refinements include:

  • Aluminum sport pedals
  • A sport three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel with contrasting stitching, and a racing-inspired flat-bottom design
  • Leather-appointed front bucket seats with red RS accents to the sportier appearance.

EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings are the same as the Sonic RS hatchback – 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway with the manual transmission.

The Sonic RS sedan will initially be available in three color combinations: Black Granite Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic or Summit White, all with Jet Black leather-appointed interiors.

The Sonic Dusk sedan, first shown as a concept at the 2011 SEMA Show, brings sophistication and style to the subcompact market. Unique exterior appointments include a ground effects package, rear spoiler, 18-inch aluminum wheels with a Midnight Silver matte finish and four-wheel disc brakes – unique to Dusk and RS.

The Sonic Dusk comes exclusively in Ashen Grey Metallic, with a distinctive matte appearance on the upper and lower grilles, door handle inserts and rear license plate trim. Stainless steel lower window moldings add an upscale accent to the body. Inside are Jet Black leather-trimmed seats with sueded microfiber accents and Mojave tan inserts.

Sonic Dusk is powered by the Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged engine, rated at 138 horsepower (103 kW) and matched with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings are 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, with the manual transmission.

Also new in 2014, Chevrolet is introducing performance parts that enhance Sonic’s handling, braking and performance. The Chevrolet Performance parts include

  • 1.4L Turbo Stage Kit with high-flow exhaust boosting the car up 10 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque
  • Cold-air induction
  • Suspension kit with lowered ride height
  • Brake package with Wilwood front calipers
  • 18-inch wheel-and-tire package.

These parts join appearance accessories announced in 2013.

Both models go on sale in spring 2014 and will be manufactured at Orion Assembly in Michigan. Sonic is the only subcompact assembled in America.

2014-Chevrolet-SonicRS-004-mediumThe Chevrolet Sonic and Spark are the first vehicles to offer Siri Eyes Free integration. Through the cars’ available Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, customers with a compatible iPhone* running iOS6 or iOS7 can direct Siri to perform a number of tasks while they safely keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.

Also, the available BringGo navigation app, the most affordable navigation system in its class, offers easy-to-use features that included 3-D maps with lane suggestions, live traffic data, and more.

All-New 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Unveiled

2015 Chevrolet ColoradoZ71Today, Chevrolet unveiled the all-new 2015 Chevy Colorado, a vehicle that is set to redefine the midsize truck market and offer “real truck” capability and versatility to customers who don’t necessarily need a full-size truck.

The Colorado is built with the DNA of a true Chevy truck, and was developed with distinctive design, comfort and connectivity features customers will love.

“Our strategy is simple: meet the needs of the broadest possible customer base, and let them choose precisely the right truck to meet their needs,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors executive vice president and president of GM North America. “The all-new Colorado benefits from the solid foundation established by the Silverado, and it reinvents the midsize truck while reinvigorating the segment at the same time.”

Chevrolet expects Colorado to be the most powerful truck in the segment, allowing owners to haul and tow more. Each of the two available engines are tuned, tested and validated; and optimized for power and efficiency. And Chevy will also offer a diesel engine in the Colorado’s second year – a proven Duramax 2.8L I-4 turbodiesel already offered in global markets.

When properly equipped, the Colorado is expected to offer a class-leading payload capacity, and trailering capacity of more than 6,700 pounds. That’s more than enough capability to throw a weekend’s worth of camping gear in the bed and tow a boat to your favorite lake!

2015 Chevrolet ColoradoZ71And because it’s a true Chevy truck, the Colorado leaves nothing on the table when it comes to innovative solutions for hauling and accessing cargo. Three configurations of the 2015 Colorado are offered: Extended cab with a 6-foot bed, Crew cab with a 5-foot bed and Crew cab with a 6-foot bed.

With the tailgate down, the 6-foot bed allows 8-foot-long items to be hauled within the vehicle.

The interior is comfortable, cleverly equipped and well connected. A bold, upright instrument panel with large instruments and a central driver information center is similar to Silverado, while features including a center console with a floor-mounted shifter are similar to those found in midsize cars and crossovers.

2015 Chevy Colorado PanelThe new Colorado’s technologies are aimed at complementing owners’ lifestyles with connectivity and other features that support their daily and recreational lives.

Standard and available features designed to keep the Colorado’s occupants safe before, during and after a crash, including: six standard air bags, standard rear-vision camera system and StabiliTrak stability control system.

The Colorado delivers the capability expected of a Chevy truck – including segment-leading payload and trailering. Like the Silverado, the Colorado is built on a fully boxed perimeter frame, which provides the strength to support its capabilities, as well as a confident, smooth and quiet ride.

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado goes on sale in fall 2014.

Fear of Night Driving? 2014 Chevrolet Impala Can Help

DETROIT – With Daylight Saving Time ending, many people will drive in the dark more often. For those uneasy with night driving, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala can help brighten the task.

ChevroletImpalaHeadlamps041-mediumThe enhanced visibility provided by Impala’s headlamps can help drivers avoid crashes after dark, the riskiest time of day. According to a study cited by the Federal Highway Administration, the risk of a fatality at night among drivers not impaired by alcohol is more than two times higher than in daytime due to less visibility.

According to a 2009 study conducted by the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, high-intensity discharge, or HID, headlamps like those on the new Impala can help drivers see objects in the road sooner than other types of headlamps, allowing for greater stopping distance.

Impala’s new headlamps are a key to one of the most comprehensive collections of standard and available safety features in the segment. Impala received the highest possible 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

All 2014 Impala models are equipped with projector beam headlamp technology, a first for the redesigned flagship sedan. The LS and LT models use halogen projectors, while the up-level LTZ uses HID bi-functional xenon projectors that offer crisper and brighter illumination.

Both types of projector distribute light evenly across the front of the car, providing a wider range of visibility than other headlamps. Impala’s new headlamps use curved reflectors and “prescription” lenses designed to project brighter light farther and with more directional accuracy. They also feature a light shield designed to reduce glare for oncoming traffic.

“Safety and customer satisfaction drove design and development of Impala’s new headlamps,” said Todd Pawlik, Impala chief engineer. “We benchmarked them against the best in the industry.”

Impala’s low-profile black-and-chrome headlamps highlight the new model’s exterior, giving it a slightly sinister appearance. Impala’s designers were able to narrow the headlamp opening by eliminating the reflector-optic cavity in favor of a smaller lamp with bi-functional high/low-beam operation controlled in the projector by the light shield.

The all new 2014 Chevrolet Impala set to make a statement at New

Extra chrome trim with metallized Chevrolet “bowtie” accents over the side marker reflector stretch horizontally to the corner of the car, emphasizing the sleek appearance of the lamp and the width of the car.

To further enhance the appearance, the headlamp designers placed an inner lens over the turn-signal cavity, helping to obscure the bulb while dispersing its light, giving a dramatic “fire-in-the-hole” appearance when lit.

The LTZ model accents the HID bulb with a light-emitting diode, or LED, halo ring designed to give an expensive appearance while functioning as a parking lamp. The model’s LED daytime running lamps improve visibility at any time of day.

“Impala’s new-look headlamps required a significant amount of attention to detail,” said Steve McCabe, lead creative designer for Impala. “As a result they help give the car a premium appearance.”
